IT world: how the industry is structured and what is the situation in Uzbekistan

The word "IT" reminds many people of programming, but in fact it is a large industry with several layers. Below we will consider these layers and the current situation in Uzbekistan with numbers.

Four layers of industry

Infrastructure — data centers, servers, optical networks. Every request on the Internet eventually goes to the physical iron. Platforms — cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and databases on them. Product — web and mobile applications, that is, the part that the user sees. Information and artificial intelligence — systems that make decisions from collected information.

These layers depend on each other: the product developer depends on the cloud, the cloud depends on the data center, and the data center depends on electricity and fiber. That's why it's not enough to just learn the framework—networking, operating system, and database fundamentals are also needed.

In recent years, the industry has been oriented towards exports. The export of services to residents of the IT Park is growing steadily, and the number of companies with foreign capital is also increasing.

In January-June 2026, the export of services by IT Park residents amounted to $392.5 million — $90.3 million more than in the same period last year.

In the first seven months of 2025, 481 export-oriented companies were admitted to IT Park membership, 232 of which are companies with foreign capital participation. As of May 2025, the number of residents was 2,846 and was expected to exceed 3,000 by 2026.

Practical procedure for beginners

First, learn one language thoroughly - languages change, thinking remains. Secondly, algorithms and data structure: this is necessary both in interviews and in real work. Third, `git', terminal and Linux basics. Fourthly, English is the language of most of the documents.

The most important thing is the portfolio. One completed and working online project is more profitable than ten unfinished courses.
